Os tambores japoneses são geralmente denominados por Taiko que significa "grande tambor", no entanto existem diversos tamanhos de Taiko e tambores idênticos existem também na Coreia e na China. No Japão existem referências históricas aos tambores desde à 1500 a 2000 anos, eles foram utilizados nas guerras para intimidar o inimigo, eram transportados às costas por um soldado e tocado por outros dois, serviam para dar ordens aos exércitos e nas aldeias eram também usados para delimitar as suas áreas, os terrenos destas terminavam quando se deixava de ouvir o som do Taiko. São utilizados nas cerimónias religiosas, na música clássica e tradicional.&lt;br /&gt;

A moderna percussão japonesa conhecida como Kumi-daiko surge em 1951 pela mão de Daihachi Oguchi um baterista de jazz que foi convidado para interpretar uma antiga partitura de Taiko para o Santuário Osuwa, mas para ele o&amp;nbsp; ritmo do tema era simples demais e só com um Taiko.&amp;nbsp;Daihachi Oguchi decide romper com a tradição, e inspirado na bateria, ele cria um conjunto de taiko para interpretar a peça e forma o primeiro grupo de percussão japonesa o "Daiko Osuwa" composto por 4 elementos, as características do grupo eram a velocidade, a força e uma coreografia original.&lt;br /&gt;
Daihachi Oguchi morreu a 27 de Junho de 2008 com 84 anos, Oguchi é considerado como o grande mestre do Taiko moderno, ele criou ou ajudou a formar cerca de 200 grupos de Taiko no Japão, Singapura, Canada e Estados Unidos.&lt;br /&gt;

Os tambores japoneses dividem-se em duas classes conforme a sua construção, a "Byou-daiko" e a "Shime-daiko",&amp;nbsp;a "Byou-daiko" é composta por tambores construídos tradicionalmente a partir de um único tronco de madeira em forma de barril, estes tambores têm a pele pregada não podendo portanto ser afinados,&amp;nbsp;Na Shime-daiko&amp;nbsp; os tambores são cilíndricos e afinados por cordas.&lt;br /&gt;

O O-daiko é transportado num carrinho e normalmente tocado por dois percussionistas, um mantém o ritmo e o outro faz os solos, este tambor pode atinge dimensões gigantescas, o maior de todos está na cidade de Takayama a cabeça tem 2 metros e 4 cm, o carro feito no estilo tradicional, tem travões de disco para parar as 4 toneladas de peso deste taiko. A construção deste tambores tem alguns segredos guardados pelos seus fabricantes.&lt;/div&gt;

As madeiras usadas são na maioria de árvores japonesas, a árvore do Odaiko acima referido tinha 1200 anos, os Taiko bem conservados podem durar centenas de anos.&lt;br /&gt;
A conservação das florestas levou a que muitos destes tambores sejam hoje também feitos por outros meios de construção, com ripas como as Congas por exemplo, alguns destes O-daiko são forrados no interior com folha de ouro para melhorar o seu som, as peles são de diversos tipos, ovelha, cabra,&amp;nbsp;cavalo,&amp;nbsp;vaca negra existente na Ásia, etc.&lt;br /&gt;

O Pandeirão é um tambor de aro usado na música popular brasileira essencialmente nas festas do "Bumba meu Boi" com origem no Estado do Maranhão no Nordeste Brasileiro. O Pandeirão tem aproximadamente 50 cm. toca-se apoiado na mão esquerda com a pele virado para o músico, é percutido com a mão direita. Tal como a maior parte dos tambores, existe com pele animal e pele sintética.&lt;/div&gt;

O "Bumba meu Boi" é uma espécie de ópera/dança popular, cujo enredo se desenrola em torno da história do fazendeiro que tinha um boi de raça muito bonito querido de todos e que sabia dançar. Nesta fazenda trabalhava Pai Chico, casado com Catirina que fica grávida e sente o desejo de comer língua de boi. Pai Chico desesperado e com medo de perder o filho, caso o desejo de Catina não seja realizado, resolve roubar o boi do seu patrão. O fazendeiro ao perceber o sumiço do boi e de Pai Chico manda os vaqueiros procurá-los, mas estes nada encontram. Então ele pede ajuda aos índios, estes encontram Pai Chico e o boi, que entretanto tinha adoecido. Os Pájes (curandeiros) são chamados, e após várias tentativas conseguem curar o boi que se levanta e começa a dançar alegremente. O fazendeiro perdoa Pai Chico e tudo termina em Festa.&lt;/div&gt;

Muito utilizado na música brasileira o Pandeiro deriva da Pandeireta, ele ganha relevo no final do século XIX quando é introduzido no Choro. O Pandeiro é um tambor de aro com diâmetros entre 20 a 30 cm., hoje os fabricantes esmeram-se na fabricação de peles para que o Pandeiro tenha um som grave que contraste com o brilho das soalhas também elas feitas com metais especiais. O Pandeiro é utilizado praticamente em toda a música brasileira no Choro, no Samba na Capoeira, ele é talvez o Tambor que melhor identifica o Brasil.&lt;span style="font-size: xx-small;"&gt; &lt;/span&gt;&lt;/div&gt;

Os Batá são construídos originalmente num só tronco de madeira e com regras religiosas, os tocadores são também iniciados espiritualmente para os tocarem e através deles poderem evocar e trazer os Orichás às cerimónias. Estas tradições do povo Yoruba foram levadas para Cuba pelos escravos por volta de 1800 que ai criaram a "Regla de Ochoa" ou "Santeria", para as suas preces religiosas e espirituais. Santeria significa, caminho dos santos, era originalmente um termo pejorativo dado pelos colonizadores espanhóis a excessiva devoção aos santos.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: justify;"&gt;Mas voltando aos Batá, estes são bimembranofones com pele animal esticada por cordas e com forma de ampulheta, têm funções diferentes;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="font-family: inherit; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

No Egito é conhecida também como Tabla, tem forma de copo e o bordo é arredondado, tradicionalmente são feitas em barro e madeira com peles de carneiro ou peixe, porem com a sua mais frequente utilização e necessidade de melhor afinação em diversos climas&amp;nbsp; construíram-se Darbukas em alumínio com peles sintéticas, o diâmetro da pele varia, bem com a altura.&lt;br /&gt;

O Cajon faz hoje parte integrante da música popular do Peru, de Cuba, aqui é famoso pelas Rumbas de Cajon e existe em 3 tamanhos seguindo a tradição das Congas e dos Batá (Nigéria), e de Espanha, para onde foi levado pelo guitarrista Paco de Lucia por volta de 1970 fazendo hoje parte integrante da música flamenga. A construção do Cajon foi evoluindo com os tempos, este idiofone tem no Peru e em Cuba uma construção simples, caixote de madeira com uma frente (cara) mais fina e uma traseira com uma saída de som, em Cuba alguns músicos colocam guizos na parte exterior junto à "cara", o Cajon flamengo é o que tem mais alterações, tem um snare interior com afinação e guizos.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Com origem num outro Tambor de origem Africana o "Makuta" oriundo do Congo, as Congas tornaram-se conhecidas através das "Comparsas", grupos de Carnaval onde lhes chamavam Tambores de Conga.&lt;br /&gt;
Com forma de barril construídas em madeira, têm peles de animal.&lt;br /&gt;

Houve uma tentativa por parte das organizações, e dos governos de obrigar as orquestras a ensinar musica aos seus elementos e tocarem por pauta nos referidos concursos, o que gerou enorme&amp;nbsp;controvérsia entre os maestros e&amp;nbsp;musicólogos, tendo prevalecido a ideia de que o virtuosismo e tradição se iriam perder.&lt;br /&gt;

&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Feito numa&amp;nbsp;única&amp;nbsp;peça de madeira em forma de ampulheta, este tambor tem peles de cabra e nalguns casos, de lagarto. As peles são unidas por um sistema de cordas, que quando&amp;nbsp;apertadas pelo braço do musico que percute uma das peles com uma baqueta curva, produzem diversos tons.&lt;br /&gt;
Com &amp;nbsp;diversos nomes, conforme os povos e as&amp;nbsp;línguas&amp;nbsp;faladas, este Tambor é limitado na sua origem ao interior da África Ocidental.&lt;br /&gt;

Os grandes tocadores de Tama, (os Onigangan, assim chamados nos povos Yorubá) têm um estatuto social muito importante nas comunidades africanas.&lt;br /&gt;
Este tambor pelas suas&amp;nbsp;características sonoras era utilizado como meio de comunicação a curta distância,&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;em diversas&amp;nbsp;regiões de&amp;nbsp;países&amp;nbsp;como&amp;nbsp;Senegal,&amp;nbsp;Nigéria, Gana etc, dai o seu nome em&amp;nbsp;inglês&amp;nbsp;de Talking Drum.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: xx-small;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Já os Mandinga (Senegal, Gâmbia) utilizam menores dimensões, normalmente cabeças de 7 cm.&lt;br /&gt;
O modo de tocar está intimamente ligado ás tonalidades de cada língua, no Senegal, Gâmbia, Mali e Guiné, os ritmos são muito rápidos e relacionam-se com a acentuação tonal e não-tonal das&amp;nbsp;línguas&amp;nbsp;destas zonas.&lt;br /&gt;

Toca-se normalmente suspenso nos ombros em posição vertical com um ou dois maços, as peles grossas dão-lhe um som grave e profundo.&lt;br /&gt;

Em 1997, Rui Júnior percussionista responsável pela maior divulgação da percussão portuguesa , no país e no estrangeiro, ao compor uma banda sonora para o Ballet Gulbenkian, necessitava dum som entre a Caixa de Rufo e o Bombo, mandou fazer um Timbalão com as características de construção dos tambores portugueses, hoje quase todas as novas orquestras e grupos de percussão tradicional utilizam o Timbalão. Pode-se tocar na posição horizontal como o Bombo, ou na vertical como a Caixa.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Em baixo um vídeo daquela que considero a melhor orquestra de percussão portuguesa aqui dirigida por Filipe Henda, não é por ter trabalhado com eles durante vários anos que digo isto,&amp;nbsp;quando poderem&amp;nbsp;vão&amp;nbsp;ver e ouvir, ao vivo. &lt;br /&gt;

Existem também em madeira e metal. &lt;/span&gt;&lt;span style="font-family: inherit;"&gt;O Tamboril é tocado em conjunto com&amp;nbsp;uma flauta&amp;nbsp;pelo Tamborileiro,&amp;nbsp;esta&amp;nbsp;ligação flauta e tamboril&amp;nbsp;está&amp;nbsp; documentada&amp;nbsp;desde o séc. XIII em distintos contextos e níveis sociais&amp;nbsp;europeus, chegou ao séc. XX apenas em alguns países por via popular, por exemplo Espanha e França, e&lt;/span&gt;m Portugal encontra-se em duas zonas distintas, em Trás-os-Montes nas Terras de Miranda e no Alentejo&amp;nbsp;em Barrancos, Serpa e Moura. O Tamborileiro nas Terras de Miranda acompanhava &amp;nbsp;geralmente a Gaita de Foles nas festas populares enquanto que no Alentejo a sua presença é mais ritual e fora do contexto musical alentejano.&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div class="separator" style="border: medium none; clear: both; text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;

Toca-se segurando no aro&amp;nbsp;com os dedos polegar e&amp;nbsp;indicador da mão&amp;nbsp;esquerda, e apoiando-o no polegar da&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;mão direita os restantes dedos percutem os ritmos. &lt;div style="text-align: justify;"&gt;Comum à Irlanda, Escócia e País de Gales, o Bodhrán, é um membranofone constituído por um aro em madeira, sobre o qual é fixa e esticada uma pele, (geralmente de cabra) que é percutida com o auxílio de uma haste de madeira, chamada “cipin” em Irlandês. O Bodhrán é um velho tambor, mas um jovem instrumento musical, embora tenha existido na Irlanda durante séculos, foi introduzido na música tradicional apenas na década de 1960. Existem sem e com afinação, de diversos tamanhos que vão de 25 a 60 cm. e as peles por vezes são decoradas com desenhos. Este enorme tambor é Irlandês, e a sua história é relativamente incerta. A mais credível, é que foram trazidos da Holanda por tropas do rei William’s em 1690. Outra história conta que foram construídos primeiramente na cidade de Lambeg, por volta de 1870 com base nos tambores militares. Com aproximadamente 90 cm no diâmetro, 60 cm na largura e com 20 quilos de peso, é tocado com baquetas curvas de madeira de Malaca ou de bambu, o corpo é construído em madeira de carvalho e as peles são de cabra, que apesar de ser fina é muito resistente. O Lambeg era utilizado nas procissões, em conjuntos de quatro ou seis, acompanhados por&amp;nbsp;flautas, mas foi excluído devido aos ritmos executados e ao seu peso, que alteravam o andamento das mesmas. Os Irlandeses só voltaram a ouvir o som destes tambores nos desfiles ao fim de 50 anos, nas cerimónias de 2005.
